  How do I care for my jewelry?
Please apply perfume or hairspray before putting on your jewelry.  Protect the pieces from excessive moisture and clean with a damp cloth and dry.  Do not clean with a solvent based brass cleaner.

  What materials do you use?
Our jewelry and accessories are made of materials purchased and manufactured in the US whenever possible.  All items are handcrafted in our shop in Oxford, AL.  We endeavor to create in a climate of local awareness without sacrificing originality, creativity or style!

Our Jewelry is comprised primarily of brass.  We do use some copper braids as well.  Our industrial knitted look is made of an iron / copper alloy or monel.

All earring posts and wires are titanium or anodized titanium to give them a complimentary color to go with the individual earring.

All of our pieces are either plated or oxidized and then finishe d with a lacquer coating which seals as well as beautifies the jewelry.  The colors are hand-mixed with tints and bronze powders in lacquer, and then artfully applied.

  Why a map and not a regular listing?
There are several reasons for this, the first being the safety of your information. It is never a good idea to post an unprotected listing of information on the internet, because data can be taken and used freely. When store names, phone numbers and addresses are in list format, they are easily printed or copied and pasted. While the information is still there on the map, it would be a lot more trouble to take and likely not worth the time. This helps to reduce the number of unwanted phone calls, mailers and spam emails received. The second reason we prefer a map is to make things easier for YOUR customers. When they want to find a boutique that carries our line, all they have to do is zoom in on their area. When they hover over the pin on the map, it gives the store name. Clicking the pin will reveal more information, and even a link to get directions. We feel that the map is the best way to put all of the information needed in one place, safely.
 
  How do I get my website to show up under the "Retail Links" section of your site?
For now, that is reserved for websites with shopping carts where you can place orders. We do not have enough room to list every customer with a website, so we had to set up some guidelines. If you have a site with a shopping cart, please send your information to info@sarahcavender.com to be added to the list. Otherwise, your store will show up on the map if you have ordered within the last 6 months.
 
  Why does it take so long to receive my order?
Everything here is handmade after your order is placed. We do not keep stock - whatever you order is made especially for you, to your color / stone / size specifications. Doing things this way keeps your orders unique and allows our pieces to go with the look of your store, the season, or the specific items you carry. We request 4 - 6 weeks for large orders, and small orders or re-orders (under $300) can be filled in a 2 - 3 week time frame. If for some reason you find yourself needing a special order yesterday, please call us immediately - we will try our best to accommodate you.
 
  How do I place an order on the website?
First of all, you must have a password. If you don't have a password, email us at info@sarahcavender.com with your store information (store name, address and phone number). A password will be emailed to you. After you have received your password, you may log in and browse through our line by using the categories found on the left sidebar, or by using the search box if you have a previous invoice and are looking for a specific piece. Use only the numeral portion of the item number in the search box. Once you have found an item you want, clicking on it will take you to the page where you customize it. You should choose the size or earring type if applicable, then the base color, then the additional colors if you want any, and stone if applicable. This is the customization of one item only. If you have a quantity of 2 or more, they will all be this size, color, etc. If you want the same item in a different size, color, etc., then you will have to add a new one to your cart and customize it, as well. This may seem like a lot of trouble, but it cuts down on mistakes and misunderstandings. We want you to be pleased with your order. Being very clear when ordering makes that possible.
 
  How do I customize my items?
Many of our items come in sizes, so please pick the size you want from the drop-down menu. Please do the same with earrings, where there is a choice of post or clip. Every item we make has a base metal color, which is the actual color of the metal, once it is plated or oxidized. Most items have color swatches to choose from, and those that don't have swatches yet, will. Simply click the base metal color that you want. On the additional colors, you may choose your own color or combination of colors using the color chart provided, OR you may choose one of our popular combinations from the drop down list. It is not necessary to use both options - please just use whichever one suits your need. As for the stones, there are charts that have all stones on them, but only what will fit your piece will be included in the drop-down list. MOST items will have the drop-down list, but you may encounter some that don't - we are currently updating the site and enabling this option, so it is a work in progress. Please feel free to call us if you need any help with the customization process.
 
  What is the return / exchange / repair policy?
All items are handmade to order. If your order is not as you expected or you find any defects, please contact us immediately. We will repair or replace any problematic items at our discretion. Refunds for items returned more than ten days after the purchase date will be in the form of a credit redeemable on your next purchase, with our pre-approval and return authorization label or number. The original shipping and handling charges are not refundable. If you have an exchange for the same dollar amount as the original purchase, no additional shipping or handling charges will be incurred. Please mail your carefully protected item in a sturdy box via prepaid, insured, traceable carrier to the address below. Please also include a note in the package stating the problem and the agreed upon course of action.
